Community Food Projects

Local communities are often in the best position to identify what the local food issues are and what solutions are needed. In many areas communities are developing creative local projects to tackle some of these issues.

Most projects are about helping people to get access to affordable, healthy food.  Some projects involve delivering food to communities where there is limited choice of food in the local shops.  Other focus on the provision of low cost healthy meals, such as through luncheon clubs, community cafes, Meals on Wheels, breakfast clubs or food provision for the homeless.  Others focus on developing new skills, such as growing your own food, or cooking skills.

As well as helping those involved to access food, and develop new skills, they also have important social benefits, offering participants support and helping them gain confidence.
