RELEASE DATE 1st September 2005
TITLE SWEDISH GROUP WOWED BY GREATER NOTTINGHAM GROUNDWORK

On Wednesday 31st August, Nottingham regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham hosted a group of Swedish regeneration enthusiasts, who were visiting the city of Nottingham.

The group of 23 consisted of various professionals, including, local and regional authority representatives, scientists and entrepreneurs. The visitors were in Nottingham to learn about the regeneration work that Groundwork does in the Greater Nottingham area and to take back ideas about how regeneration work across Sweden can be improved.

Richard Chamberlain, spokesperson for Groundwork said, " When the group saw the work that Groundwork is doing and learnt how Groundwork works with conmmunities, they were extremely impressed. They were really excited about the way in which our approach could be applied in Sweden"

During the visit, the delegates were taken to two of Groundwork Greater Nottingham's projects:
Peggy's Park on the Edwards Lane Estate is a prime example of how communities can work with Groundwork to re-model their local open spaces and then take the intiative to work as a community to look after them.
Colville Street Play is an example of an area of the city which was subject to anti-social activities and consequently unused by the local community. Through consultation and redevelopment, Groundwork has assisted the community to re-gain a local open space which is now used by children and young people.

On Thursday 1st September, following their tour of Nottingham, the group will be visiting other regernation projects and organisations in Liverpool, Birmingham and London before returning to Sweden.
