TITLE TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE FORGES LINKS FOR THE FUTURE WITH TOYOTA ACADEMY

Students from Farnborough School Technology College in Clifton near Nottingham got a personal tour of the Toyota Academy at Nottingham Trent University last week as a result of their hard work with Toyota's Schools for Sustainable Development Programme.

Over the last few months, pupils have worked with regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham to come up with proposals for improvements to their local shopping area on Varney Road. The visit allowed them to present their ideas for new trees, seating and artwork, to Toyota’s Gary Harlock, director of the Academy.

The students were then given a tour of the state of the art training facilities available on the site. They sat behind the wheel of the prototype of the new Lexus hybrid car, looked in on training sessions in marketing and PR as well as touring the workshops where new engines are put together.

Teacher at Farnborough School Technology College, Juliet Quinten was delighted with the visit. She commented, "It's great to have the opportunity to make links between students and local businesses. We hope that this visit will be the start of long relationship with the Academy. We have already discussed plans for year 11 students to take part in one of Toyota’s school enterprise schemes in the coming year."

Toyota's Schools for Sustainable Development Programme is a programme which is run by Toyota companies across Europe. Angela Ganss, Landscape Architect at Groundwork Greater Nottingham said, "Toyota's aim of this programme is to promote and support activities that contribute to improving the local environment." She continued, "This is not the first project in Clifton to benefit from this programme. Highbank Primary School recently obtained support for an outdoor performance area where pupils can stage plays and enjoy other performing arts activities."
