RELEASE DATE 9 May 2005
TITLE YOUNG PEOPLE STEAM AHEAD ON RAILWAY HISTORY

A project to regenerate a local park is nearing completion, thanks to work by local regeneration charity Groundwork Greater Nottingham in partnership with Nottingham City Council and the local community around Edwards Lane Community Centre. In recognition of completion of the project, a celebration event is to be held on Thursday 2nd June 2005 between 4pm and 7pm at the newly renamed Peggys Park, behind Edwards Lane Community Centre.

Having completed the works at the rear of the community centre, the Young Roots Heritage Group are now working with Groundwork to design an interpretation board and information leaflet describing the past railway heritatge of the park, which was once a railway cutting. The group have collated information for the board and designed some new gates which will be positioned at the entrance to the park, off Longdale Road. Balbir Kaur, Youth Project Officer for Groundwork said, "There is a really interesting railway history to the park, and working with the young people around Edwards Lane Community Centre has stimulated some great ideas and given the young people in the area a sense of ownership. This celebration event will show the positive work of the young people for the benefit of the community"

The project to design the new entrance gates and interpretation board and information leaflet has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
