TITLE LOCAL MP TO OPEN CITY BRIDLEWAY

WHAT: OFFICIAL OPENING OF SKYLARK DRIVE BRIDLEWAY BY GRAHAM ALLEN MP

WHEN: FRIDAY 19 MAY 2006 AT 11AM

WHERE: SKYLARK DRIVE, BASFORD

Nottingham North MP, Graham Allen is due to open a refurbished city bridleway, thanks to an £70,000 project run by local regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham.

Cyclists and local residents are now benefiting from the installation of a new hard-wearing surface, lights and access barriers to the Skylark Drive Bridleway in Old Basford. These improvements, together with the removal of undergrowth has greatly improved the route’s appearance and safety. In addition, interpretation boards have been installed, giving users information about the bridleway which also runs alongside the River Leen.

Irene Andrews, Area 2 Coordinator for Nottingham City Council says, "This is a great project. Its is responding to the concerns of local people and has been a great example of people in the community working together."

Before the works, the bridleway which is part of the Sustrans National Cycle Network, was subject to a number of problems associated with anti-social behaviour. Following consultation with local residents, Groundwork Greater Nottingham were able to find funding from The Home Office's Gate It scheme, Greater Nottingham Partnership and Nottingham City Council to carry out the improvements.

Speaking for cyclists prior to the completion of the works, Graham Hubbard of local cycling training company, Ridewise says, "We are very pleased to see that these improvements are being made and anything which improves our cycle networks and the safety of cyclists is very welcome."

Graham Allen will be opening the bridleway on Friday 19th May 2006 at 11am on Skylark Drive in Basford.
