RELEASE DATE 14 February2006
TITLE CHILDRENS DRAWINGS TURN TO SIGNS

Children from primary schools in Bingham have been busy creating designs for new boundary signs at the four entrances to the town. Hundreds of children took part in the ‘Bingham Gateways’ competition, which was organised by Bingham Town Council and local regeneration charity Groundwork Greater Nottingham, as part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Building Better Communities (BBC) initiative.

BBC is a wide ranging five-year programme that will see £25 million invested in making the county a better place to live and work.

Staff at Groundwork Greater Nottingham were amazed by the quality of the entries and had great difficulty selecting the winners. The standard was so high that a fifth design was chosen to be installed at the entrance to the Bingham Linear Routeway on Nottingham Road, which is currently being upgraded. Eleanor Holdich from Robert Miles Infant School, George Walker, Richard Dickens from Robert Miles Junior School, Yusuf Zerdazi and Madeleine Drabble from Carnarvon Primary School have all been invited to visit Malcolm Lane fabricators in Cropwell Bishop to see their drawings being turned into cast iron signs.

Speaking about the competition, The Mayor of Bingham, John Eagles, commented that he was delighted with these improvements to the town and he and his wife were looking forward to visiting Malcolm Lane with the youngsters.
