RELEASE DATE 15 February 2006
TITLE FIRST STAGE SET AT COLLIERS WOOD

The first phase of a project to create a outdoor stage has started in the Colliers Wood area of Broxtowe.

Local regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham together with Friends of Colliers Wood, Broxtowe Borough Council and Greenwood Forest Partnership are working to install the stage facility, overlooking the main pond area on the site. The stage project, which has been funded by Nottinghamshire County Council's "Building Better Communities" scheme, will provide a dramatic setting for local events and performances. It has been designed to accommodate scenery, displays and even lighting for special events.

Groundwork Greater Nottingham's Landscape Architects designed the project to sit naturally in the existing space using the contours of the land and providing areas overlooking the stage. Designers also incorporated tiered seating which will be constructed once sufficient funds have been raised. It is hoped that once this seating has been installed, the area will provide an ideal environment for club discussions, curriculum visits by school pupils, displays, drama and other community functions.

Margaret Turner, Chair of Friends of Colliers Wood, expressed delight at seeing the progress on this long awaited project and thanked members of the Friends of Colliers Wood and Broxtowe Borough Council for their support. In addition, Margaret Turner expressed thanks to Councillor David Taylor for his assistance in procuring funding and Chryse Tinsley, Landscape Team Leader at Groundwork who designed the project.
