RELEASE DATE 16 February 2006
TITLE GROUNDWORK GETS LINEAR PARK STRAIGHT

Local regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham, has announced the start of works to improve Bingham Linear Park. Groundwork has been successful in finding funding to carry out work along the route, which includes improvements to upgrade the surface of the path and clear vegetation along the perimeter of the path. The scheme will improve what is currently quite a muddy routeway and improve visibility along it. Improvements are also being made to the entrances at Nottingham Road, Campion Way and Tythby Road Bridge.

A drawing by 7 year old George Walker from Robert Miles Junior School in Bingham will also be brightening up the routeway. As the winner of a competition organised by Bingham Town Council and Groundwork Greater Nottingham, George’s drawing, of a man walking his dog, has been turned into a cast iron sign and will be incorporated at the Nottingham Road entrance.

Bill Bacon from Friends of Bingham Linear Routeway will be working with Groundwork on a bid for funding of further works next winter to improve the biodiversity of the route. This will be an important step in encouraging wildlife to return to the site as well as enhancing its attractiveness.

Works for the project are being funded through the Greater Nottingham Partnership and Nottinghamshire County Council’s “Building Better Communities” scheme.
