RELEASE DATE 16 February 2006
TITLE LOCAL ALLOTMENT GETS OPENING CELEBRATION

Local regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham have announced a celebration event and grand opening for a new allotment in the Netherfield area. It is hoped that a celebration event, on Wednesday the 22nd February, from 1.30 to 3.30, will give local families the chance to go to the allotment and see what has achieved so far, and have a go at planting and decorating the shed.

Working in partnership with Surestart, Groundwork staff and volunteers have transformed a derelict allotment into a beautiful space for growing fruit and vegetables. The site now boasts its own polytunnel, to give plants a head start in the season, a gazebo for sheltering from the sun and a large swing seat for relaxing.

Chloe Griffiths of Groundwork Greater Nottingham said, "Projects of this type are good for teaching people about growing their own food and encouraging a healthy lifestyle." Chloe Griffiths continued, "This will be a great event where people can see what work Groundwork and Surestart has been doing and everybody is welcome, especially families with younger children."

To find out more, please phone Netherfield Sure Start on 9404 153 or Chloe Griffiths from Groundwork on 9788 212.
