TITLE GROUNDWORK SECURES GREATER NOTTINGHAM PARTNERSHIP SUPPORT

Local regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham has been awarded £200,000 from the Greater Nottingham Partnership to spend on improving Nottingham’s parks and open spaces. The money will be used to tackle specific issues of crime and anti-social behaviour, eg. improving visibility and security, installing sports facilities for teenagers or providing much-needed community amenities.

The specific projects include:

Colville Street Playground, Arboretum Area
Residents of Colville St and the Arboretum Area have supported a multi-agency partnership which includes SureStart St Anns, The Guinness Trust, Nottingham City Council and Groundwork Greater Nottingham. Groundwork have worked closely with residents to develop proposals which provide upgraded ball-court facilities,
and new play equipment for under 4’s and older children. Other funders include Living Spaces and and Area 4 Area Committee.

Killisick Recreation Ground, Coppice Road, Arnold
Groundwork, Gedling Borough Council and the Killisick Residents Association have completed a consultation exercise aimed at providing additional facilities for young people, and are about to commence installation of a new playground and enlarged playground and multi-use ball court. Funding is provided by Gedling Borough Council and Greater Nottingham Partnership.

Greenway Community Centre, Sneinton
Local residents and the Greenway Centre have lobbied for some time for improvements to the park behind the Greenway Community Centre (Tricketts Yard). Groundwork Greater Nottingham have undertaken consultation with the centre and local people and work has begun to clear the site. Groundwork’s new design aims to improve safety within the park by opening up views and removing blind spots, and to provide informal play and/or meeting facilities for all age groups. This stage of the work will also include a play area specifically for the centre’s crèche, funded by Sure Start Sneinton. Other funding is from Greater Nottingham Partnership and Nottingham City Council’s Area Committee.

The work is being carried out by Land Restoration Services Ltd. Director, Terry Daft said, "I know the area well – in the 1950’s my parents owned the nearby Earl of Manvers pub and I used to play on what was then a scrapyard with the owners son, Jack Trickett."
