RELEASE DATE 20 January 2006
TITLE SKYLARK DRIVE - IMPROVING THE PATH

Local regenertaion charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham will be working with Nottingham City Council's area 2 team on a project to improve an existing cycle route and bridleway between Mill Street, Firecrest Way and Skylark Drive.

It is hoped that the planned works will help to reduce problems along the route, which has been used as a route for crime and antisocial behaviour generally. Chryse Tinsley, Landscape Team Leader for Groundwork Greater Nottingham said, "Local people are fed up with the problems that are associated with this routeway. Groundwork is therefore working with Nottingham City Council’s local area 2 team to make some physical changes during the winter."

The length of routeway being improved is part of the national cycle network and is used by many cyclists everyday. Graham Hubbard from the local cycling training company, Ridewise said,"We are very pleased to see that these improvements are being made and anything which improves our cycle networks and the safety of cyclists is very welcome."

Nottingham North MP, Graham Allen also commented, "This is a worthwhile project and it is good to see that the hard work that has gone into funding applications has finally paid off. I am looking forward to the scheme being finished in February."

The changes are expected to cost around £68,000. Initial funding has been obtained from Nottingham City Council and The Home Office's Operation Gate It programme. This will fund the installation of better access barriers and railings, improved lighting and upgrading the surface of the path.

Local residents are being kept informed of progress; but further information can be obtained from Chryse Tinsley at Groundwork Greater Nottingham on 978 8212.
