RELEASE DATE 22nd September 2006
TITLE Green Volunteers Make Record

For immediate release

WHAT: The recording of flora, fauna and historical buildings by volunteers.
WHEN: 7th and 8th October 2006
WHERE: St Anns Allotment, St Anns, Nottingham

Volunteers are getting ready to help local regeneration charity Groundwork Greater Nottingham in a unique project to record information about St Anns Allotment. This is the first time a recording exercise of this type has ever been attempted on the allotment, and forms part of a much larger regeneration project involving several local organisations.

Groundwork is currently trying to recruit 40 volunteers to help with the exercise which is due to take place on 7th and 8th October. It is intended that each of the 670 plots on the allotment will be visited and a record of flora, fauna and other interesting aspects will be made. Another team of volunteers will be manning computers, entering the data as it is collected into a database.

St Anns Allotments are Grade II listed allotments in the inner city of Nottingham. Once "detached urban pleasure gardens", they are now used by many gardeners. In addition to this, the site is also the largest allotment in the world. Judith Bagguley, Project Team Leader at Groundwork Greater Nottingham said, "The allotment is a fantastic resource for all who live in the city, and Groundwork, together with Renewal Trust and all our other partners, are working hard to ensure that this continues for years to come."

Organisations involved in the overall regeneration project are Renewal Trust, Groundwork Greater Nottingham, Necta, STAA, Nottingham City Council, Ecoworks, Urban Nature and Tanc.
