RELEASE DATE 23 February 2005
TITLE GROUNDWORK HELPS BUSINESSES GRASP GREEN LEGISLATION

As part of it's Business programme, local regeneration charity Groundwork Greater Nottingham has been working with local businesses to assist them overcome the problems encountered with interpretation of the vast amounts of environmental legislation which they are now required to comply with.

Through a series of short awareness raising sessions and free of charge drop-in training sessions, Groundwork Greater Nottingham has been working to raise awareness of the Environment Agency's Netregs website. The website, allows businesses to quickly, easily and confidentially check which environmental legislation applies to them. In addition, the website dispenses with the use of legal jargon, making interpretation much easier for businesses to understand and follow.

Groundwork Greater Nottingham's Facilities Manager and Environmental Business Advisor, Richard Chamberlain said, "More and more environmental legislation is being introduced. I would envisage that this is going to be a continuing trend. There is therefore growing importance on businesses to get to grips with the current legislation and keep up with any future legislative implimentation. The Netregs website will assist business to do this.

The Environment Agency are of the opinion that not enough businesses are taking onboard current environment legislation, either because they feel it doesn’t apply to them; it will cost too much, or will take too much time. The simple fact is that every business, whether within all sectors, will have environmental legislation that applies to them. Non compliance with environmental legislation can be very costly indeed!"

The website address is http://www.netregs.gov.uk. Business that would like to find out more about the Netregs website or businesses interested in attending one of Groundwork's free drop-in sessions should contact Richard Chamberlain at Groundwork on 0115 9788212 or via email at gn@groundwork.org.uk.
