STUDENTS HELP RENEW SHOPPING AREA
Several months of planning and hard work by local schoolchildren have paid off handsomely. Working in partnership with regeneration charity Groundwork Greater Nottingham, Toyota and the City Council they have helped to totally upgrade Varney Road shopping parade with new paving, benches, trees and a colourful artwork opposite Dovecote Primary School.

Their efforts to improve their local environment are being rewarded by grateful workers at a local store. To celebrate the official opening of the new look modern shopping area a fun day in Aid of The Children’s Society is being organised by Sue Shaw manager of the Co-op store.

The renovated shopping area will be officially opened by Nottingham South MP, Alan Simpson at 12.30pm on Friday 27th April 2007.

The fun event, which will take place between 1pm and 5pm, will feature a bouncy castle, face-painting and an arts and crafts competition for children, with prizes available for the best entries.

Store manager Sue Shaw said: "The revamp has made a huge difference to the shopping area and the students have done a fantastic job painting the murals on our store building. I am sure our customers will be delighted with our colourful new look and we hope as many of them as possible will come along to see the finished works and support this worthwhile charity."
