TITLE BUILDING WORK STARTS ON CAR COMPANY CLASSROOM PROJECT

Local regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham has announced the start of the the main works to build an outdoor classroom at Highbank Primary School in Clifton. Funded by Toyota as part of the car company's european initiative, Schools for Sustainable Development, the first footings were excavated a few weeks ago, with the start of the structural works getting underway this week.

The pupils at the school have been involved in various ways throughout the design stages of the project. They have been finding out about culture in the new countries within the European Union and acting out Eastern European drama outside to see how much space they need for the outdoor classroom. Drama has taken place on a virtual stage with an audience of fellow pupils to help them work out the steps that will be needed for them to sit on whilst watching performances and taking part in outside classes.

Steve Parry, Headteacher of Highbank Primary School said, "Opportunities to work in partnership with businesses like Toyota enable us to provide something beyond what we can provide alone." Gary Harlock of Toyota added, "Its great to be involved with a project that will have such an impact on the school and it’s pupils"

Work at Highbank Primary is expected to take around 2 weeks to complete, and the pupils of Highbank Primary are looking forward to seeing their new classroom when it is finished.
