TITLE COLLIERS WOOD SETS THE STAGE AND GETS ON A BETTER TRACK

WHAT: LAUNCH OF NEW AREAS AROUND COLLIERS WOOD, MOORGREEN

WHEN: WEDNESDAY 24TH MAY 2006

WHERE: COLLIERS WOOD, ENGINE LANE, MOORGREEN

Wednesday 24th May 2006 at 2pm, will see the official launch and completion of a programme of works to a local country park.

Over the last few months Colliers Wood has undergone £20,000 of improvement works. Groundwork Greater Nottingham, working in partnership with the Friends of Colliers Wood and Broxtowe Borough Council, has overseen the improvements which has included the installation of a hard surfaced area to provide a stage for outdoor events and new and improved pathways throughout the park.

Mayor of Broxtowe, Councillor Doug Wilcockson will be attending the launch to officially cut the ribbon and celebrate completion of the works.

Already a popular spot for walkers with its ponds and maturing woodlands, Colliers Woods was once the site of Moorgreen Colliery. With the help and dedication of Broxtowe Borough Council and the Friends of Colliers Wood, it has been converted into an area of trees and open spaces, where people can now enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Nottinghamshire countryside.

Chryse Tinsley Landscape Team Leader at Groundwork Greater Nottingham says, ‘This has been a lovely project to be involved with; the site is a joy to visit and is already well used by local people’

The latest programme of works to improve the paths around the wood was funded by Greater Nottingham Partnership with additional funding for installation of the stage area being obtained from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Building Better Communities Fund.

Further improvement works are now planned for later this year thanks to Landfill Tax Credit Scheme funding from WREN. These improvements will include the installation of tiered seating behind the new stage and a replacement wooden dipping platform at the lower pond.
