RELEASE DATE 28 October 2005
TITLE NEW DEAL ASSISTANCE HELPS HOMES REFURB

Environmental regeneration charity, Groundwork Greater Nottingham is working with New Deal for Communities in Radford and Hyson Green (NDC) on a programme of housing refurbishments.

NDC are funding grants to assist tenants and residents to make improvements to their homes for items such as windows, doors, guttering, roof repairs and boundary improvements. Initially taking in the area known as the Players Triangle; Wallan Street, Benn Street, Osbourne Road and a section of Alfreton Road, phase 1 is expected to be valued at up to £175,000. The next phase of improvement is expected to start in the new financial year.

Consultations with residents has been underway for some time regarding the project. Chryse Tinsley of Groundwork Greater Nottingham said, "The reason for the consultation was to ensure that the scheme would be tailored specifically to meet the needs of resident and tenants."

In addition to Groundwork and NDC, Fairgoose Credit Union are also involved and will be available to give help to residents who may see financial issues as a barrier to taking advantage of the scheme.

Residents will not only be benefitting, however; it is intended that local people will be employed to help carry out work.

Residents who live in the Players Triangle area of Nottingham can find out more about the project by contacting Chryse Tinsley at Groundwork Greater Nottingham on 0115 9788212.

Media organisations should contact Richard Chamberlain for more information in the first instance.
